Future of environmental education discussed at Adam University through the lens of gamification


On January 19, 2026, Adam University hosted a round table discussion entitled “Gamification in Environmental Education.” The event was dedicated to the memory of the outstanding scientist, Honored scientist of the Kyrgyz Republic, Professor Emil Dzaparovich Shukurov.

The meeting brought together ecologists, educators, game developers, and students to discuss modern tools for shaping environmental thinking. The main goal of the event was to explore the potential of game mechanics in education and to preserve the scientific legacy of Professor Shukurov.

Key points of the program:

The master's legacy: Participants familiarized themselves with the creative work of Emil Shukurov and watched the landmark video interview “10 thoughts, which set the ethical tone for the entire discussion. Adam N. Suerkulova, Vice-Rector for Development of the University, and E. Shukurov, Director of the NGO “Aleine +,” gave welcoming speeches.

Expert experience: Guest expert from the Russian Federation Sergey Kolmakov (co-author of the game “Ecologic”) shared his experience of using board games in education, emphasizing their role in visualizing complex environmental processes.

Local developments:

A. Zhusupbaeva, director of the Edison School, presented a unique case study—an environmental game developed by the schoolchildren themselves.

O. Domashova, designer of the AKMENA NGO, demonstrated how games can be used to effectively present the natural and cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan.

Student initiatives: Representatives of Compass College (students and teachers from the IT department) presented their game projects, demonstrating the high potential of young people in creating digital and creative products for the environment.

The session was moderated by Ilya Domashov, head of the laboratory support department of the Adam University.

The meeting culminated in an open discussion, during which participants adopted a resolution on the further implementation of gaming methods in the educational process. Gamification was recognized as one of the most promising ways to raise an environmentally responsible generation capable of continuing Professor Shukurov's work.
